Maikapu'uwai

Our Story

A new hawaiian music group formed in 2014, by James “Kimo” Stone Jr. and Van Ohumukini, to compete in the final year of the Ka Himeni Ana music contest where they took 2nd place. However, Kimo and Van have been playing together across the Islands on an “on-call” basis for at least 10 years. In December 2015 they released their debut Album, 'Olu'Olu.

Maikapu'uwai, meaning “From the Heart”, describes their music as traditional Hawaiian plus. That is to say they are rooted in Hawaiian music but they embrace all their musical influences including country, rock and island contemporary; all which is shared from the heart.
